CANCELLATION GUIDE

How to Cancel Employer Health Insurance

Opt out of your company plan and switch to Gabriel Care.

1

Check your options

Most employers only allow changes during Open Enrollment (usually fall) or after a Qualifying Life Event (marriage, baby, moving, losing other coverage). Check your employee handbook or ask HR.

2

Sign up for Gabriel Care first

Get your Gabriel Care membership active ($299/mo) and ACA Bronze enrolled before making changes to your employer plan. Your wellness coverage starts immediately.

3

Talk to HR

Tell your HR department you want to opt out of the group health plan during the next enrollment period. Ask about any implications — some employers require coverage or adjust compensation.

4

Opt out during Open Enrollment

When your company's enrollment window opens, decline coverage for the next plan year. Your last day of employer coverage will typically be December 31.

5

Qualifying Life Events

Getting married, having a baby, or moving can trigger a special enrollment period. You can drop employer coverage and enroll in ACA outside of open enrollment.

6

Avoid COBRA

If you leave your job, DON'T elect COBRA ($600-800+/mo). Sign up for Gabriel Care + ACA Bronze instead. Job loss is a qualifying event for immediate ACA enrollment.

TIP

Many members keep their employer insurance for conventional coverage and ADD Gabriel Care for wellness. You don't have to choose — you can have both.
